Wildcats take season series with Winfield

The Logan and Winfield high school boys’ basketball teams should know each other very well by now.

The Wildcats and the Generals met for a third time this season on Thursday night at Logan High School’s Willie Akers Arena as Logan defeated Winfield 51-41 to improve to 9-9 on the season.

Logan took the season series 2-1 over the Generals.

The two teams met 10 days before on Feb. 8 at the Charleston Civic Center in the Little General Shootout as the Wildcats won 44-41 over the Generals.

Winfield took the first meeting on Jan. 12 at home with a 71-53 rout over Logan.

Both teams are dropping down to Class AA ball next season and will each be re-entering the Cardinal Conference.

Braxton Goff led Logan with 16 points, while Kyle Porter had 10. Augstine Chuckwu-Noe added nine points and nine rebounds. Dino Chiemeke-Noe tossed in seven points, while Ken Kazee had four, Will Akers three and Khalil Murphy two.

Andrew Huff led Winfield with 10 points.

Goff hit two 3-pointers for the Cats. Akers and Chiemeke-Noe had one each.

Logan was 13-for-19 from the free throw line, while the Generals hit on 5-of-9.

Winfield led 12-8 after one quarter and 22-19 at the half. Logan then outscored the Generals 15-13 in the third to pull to within 35-34. A 17-6 fourth quarter by the Wildcats then put the game away.

Logan won its third straight game and were scheduled to play at Wyoming East on Saturday night. LHS hosts the Parkersburg Big Reds on Tuesday during Logan’s Senior Night game. The regular season finale is then set for Feb. 26 at home against Beckley Woodrow Wilson.

Belfry, Ky. 69,

Man 65

The Man High School boys’ basketball team dropped to 14-7 on the season with Thursday night’s 69-65 loss at Belfry, Ky.

Kenny Jo Adkins led Man with 17 points. John Thomas Keffer had 15.

Garrett Fannin led the Pirates in scoring with 27 points, 18 of which was scored in the third period. Koleston Blankenship had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Hillbillies are scheduled to close out the regular season on Tuesday night at home against county rival Chapmanville.

Chapmanville 87,

Wayne 70

The Chapmanville Regional High School boys’ basketball team improved to 11-8 overall and 6-6 in the conference with Friday night’s 87-70 win at home over Wayne.

Chapmanville swept the season series with the Pioneers, also taking a 66-63 road win on Jan. 22.

No further details were available on the game.

Wayne dropped to 6-15 with the loss.

The Tigers were scheduled to host Tolsia on Saturday. CRHS then plays at Man on Tuesday night in the regular season finale.
