CHAPMANVILLE — After last week’s explosion, Chapmanville Regional High School’s Jordan Whitt has been named as The Logan Banner Athlete of the Week.
Whitt, a 6-foot-3 senior forward, led all scorers with 23 points in the Tigers’ 71-57 win over the Tolsia Rebels on Saturday night in a key game between Class AA sectional and Cardinal Conference rivals.
Whitt had scored a season-high 16 points last Tuesday in a 63-52 loss at Sissonville and had 26 points, a career-high, in Friday night’s 87-70 victory at home over Wayne.
The Tigers have won five out of their last six games and were scheduled to close out the regular season on Tuesday night.
Chapmanville is awaiting word this week about the Class AA sectional seedings. The sectionals are scheduled to begin on Saturday night at Logan High School’s Willie Akers Arena with the play-in game, most likely featuring No. 5 seed Mingo Central against No. 4 seed Wayne.
Tolsia, Scott and Chapmanville are battling it out for the one through three seeds.
With the win over the Rebels, Chapmanville earned a season series split with Tolsia. The Tigers had fallen at Tolsia 80-60 earlier in the season.
The Tigers improved to 12-8 overall and 7-6 in the Cardinal Conference with the win. Tolsia dropped to 12-9, 5-7.
