Parkersburg spoiled Logan High School’s Senior Night with a 56-49 victory over the Wildcats on Tuesday night at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena.
Logan dropped to 9-11 on the basketball season while the Big Reds improved to 12-9.
The Wildcats were led by Braxton Goff’s 22 points. He was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
Logan honored its three senior players — Ben Kazee, Augustine Chukwu-Noe and Khalil Muprhy. Murphy had seven points, Kazee netted three and Chukwu-Noe two.
Murphy was also the recipient of the annual Willie Akers Scholarship Award before the game.
Kyle Porter also tossed in six points for Logan. Emmanuel “Dino” Noe had nine.
Parkersburg was paced by Kameron White’s game-high 26 points. Brenton Strange tallied nine points, while Karson Snyder and Tyler Lawrentz had seven each. Darrius Basta had four, Ian McElroy two and Easton Martin one.
The Wildcats held a seven-point lead in the second quarter but turnovers began to mount and Logan fell behind 29-25 at the half. The Big Reds outscored Logan 16-5 in the third to grab a commanding 45-30 lead after three.
The Wildcats were able to cut the deficit to four points in the fourth quarter but the Big Reds were able to hold on for the win.
Parkersburg led 41-30 in the third after a bucket by Strange with 2:20 to go. Back-to-back hoops by Snyder and White then put the Big Reds up by 15 after three periods of play.
Logan rallied back in the fourth as Murphy put down a dunk and Porter scored on a steal and score to make it 47-39.
Dino Noe’s 18-foot jumper then trimmed the Parkersburg lead to 51-47.
The Big Reds then outscored Logan 5-2 the rest of the way to earn the win.
Logan played very well early on.
Goff’s 3-pointer tied it at 11 at the 2:03 mark of the first quarter.
The Cats led 15-11 after one as Dino Noe scored on a lay-in with three ticks left.

Then in the second, Logan continued to expand the lead.
Goff scored a bucket after a nice pass from Murphy to make it 17-11 with 7:23 to go.

Kazee and Dino Noe then each split from the free throw line as the lead swelled to 19-12 — Logan’s largest of the night.

Parkersburg then went on a 17-3 run to take a 29-22 lead.
Goff then scored on a layup and was fouled with 13.5 seconds left. He completed the three-point play as Logan went into the locker room down 29-25.

Parkersburg also won Tuesday night’s JV game over Logan, 56-47.
Logan hosts Class AAA No. 2-ranked Beckley Woodrow Wilson (18-2) on Friday night in the regular season finale. The Cats swept Beckley last season.
Then next Wednesday, Logan is scheduled to host Spring Valley at 7:30 p.m. in one of the two Class AAA sectional semifinal games at Cabell Midland High School.
