SALEM – After helping the Tigers to four wins to open the season, senior catcher Katie Chryssofos was tabbed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Hitter of the Week announced the league office Tuesday morning.
Chryssofos, a Chapmanville native and a Logan High School graduate, went 9-of-18 (.500) with four home runs, 16 RBI, seven runs scored and two stolen bases to help the Salem International University softball team win four of five games this past weekend.
The Logan High School alum finished with three hits, two home runs, including a grand slam, and eight RBI in the Tigers’ 11-8 win at Virginia Union on Saturday. Earlier that day, she had two hits, a home run and three RBI in a 17-13 win to open play at Virginia Union.
She ended the weekend with two hits, a home run, four RBI and two stolen bases on Sunday at Virginia State.
A G-MAC First-Team selection last season, Chryssofos is the league’s all-time home run leader with 26, since Salem International joined the G-MAC in 2014. She also ranks third all-time in the G-MAC with 87 RBI over the past three seasons.
The hitter of the week honor is the second in her career. Chryssofos also earned the laurel last season on April 20 after another four home run week.
Chryssofos and the rest of the Salem International softball team have a week off until they take on the University Charleston on Tuesday, March 1 for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
