CHAPMANVILLE — Chapmanville Regional High School’s Hunter Neil has been named as this week’s Logan Banner Athlete of the Week.
Neil, a 6-foot-7 junior center, poured in a career-high 26 points last Tuesday in Chapmanville’s 62-59 win at county rival Man.
The victory was the Tigers’ third straight this season over the Hillbillies.
The No. 2 seed Tigers (14-8) were scheduled to begin play in the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament with Tuesday night’s semifinal matchup against No. 3 seed Tolsia (12-10) at Logan High School’s Willie Akers Arena.
Game 1 had top seed Scott (10-12) battling it out against No. 4 seed Wayne (7-16). The Pioneers, which upset Chapmanville 46-42 in last year’s sectional tourney, upended five seed Mingo Central 51-46 in Saturday night’s play-in game as the Miners closed out the season at 2-20.
The two semifinal winners meet on Friday at 7 p.m. in the sectional finals, also at Logan.
