CHAPMANVILLE — If you want to come see the Chapmanville Regional High School Tigers and their bid for next week’s state tournament you’d better come early.

A capacity crowd is expected for Thursday night’s Class AA Region 4 co-championship game as host Chapmanville (16-8) is scheduled to face off with Cardinal Conference foe Sissonville (15-9) at Chapmanville’s Danny Godby Gymnasium.

Tipoff time is 7 p.m.

The doors open at 5:30 and fans are urged to come early if they want to have a ticket and a place to sit.

Chapmanville last hosted the regional co-final two years ago as the Tigers beat Nicholas County 44-41 on Josh Butcher’s 3-pointer at the buzzer, lifting CRHS to the state tournament for the first time in school history.

A jam-packed crowd of 1,550 fans were on hand for that game and CRHS officials are expecting the same kind of turnout tonight.

Chapmanville has had a good season, led by first-year head coach Brad Napier, a Harts native. Napier led Mingo Central to the state tournament last year and had coached the Miners for three years after being a longtime assistant coach under Mark Hatcher at Logan High School.

The Tigers are red-hot, having won nine out of their last 10 games.

The Tigers and Indians split during the regular season, so Thursday’s game represents the rubber match. Chapmanville lost 63-52 on Feb. 16 at Sissonville in the previous meeting. The Indians won 65-55 on Jan. 19 at Sissonville.

Game 3 appears to be a toss-up with Tigers possibly having a slight edge being at home.

Chapmanville advanced with a dramatic 38-36 win over rival Scott in the Class AA sectional championship game last Friday at Logan.

Sissonville fell 66-39 to No. 1-ranked Poca in its sectional final. Poca (22-2) hosts Scott (11-13) in Thursday night’s other sectional title game.
