MAN — The Man High School softball team improved to 2-0 on the season with back-to-back wins on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the Lady Billies knotched their first win on the season on the road at Westside against the Lady Renegades as Emily Walker hurled a four-hit shutout and fanned eight Renegades as Man defeated WHS 9-0 in just five innings of play.
Grace Cline led the Lady Billies’ offensive attack going 2-for-3 with a double and a single while Savanah McCormack went 1-for-3. Emilee Toler was 1-for-2 and scored twice. Madison Paynter went 1-for-3 and scored a run.
Then on Wednesday, Man pounded the Mount View Golden Knights in the Lady Billies’ home opener by the final score of 18-0 in three innings.
The mercy rule halted the game after the top of the third frame.
MHS has now scored 27 runs in two shortened games to open the season.
Cydnee Lambert got her first win in a Man uniform after transfering from Chapmanville Regional High School as she hurled a two-hit shutout and struck out six batters against Mount View.
Man scored 10 runs in the first inning and added eight more runs in the bottom of the second and did not bat in the bottom of the third inning as the game was halted by the mercy rule once again.
Man was led at the plate by McCormack was she was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Lambert helped her own cause, going 2-for-3 and scoring twice.
Freshman Chelsea Vance was 1-for-1 but scored three runs.
Syndey Keffer was 1-for-2 and scored three runs, while Cline went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Tori Doty was 1-for-2 and plated a run, while Paynter was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Pitcher Mactasie Chapman suffered the loss for Mount View.
The Lady Billies are scheduled to play at Van on Friday night. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
