Salem International University senior catcher Katie Chryssofos, a Chapmanville native and former Logan High School softball player, was selected the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Hitter of the Week.
Chryssofos went 3-for-8 (.375) with two home runs, four RBI, two runs scored and drew five walks while helping the Tigers win three out of four against conference foe Ursuline this past weekend.
The highlight of her week came when she delivered a walk-off two-run home run to help Salem International earn a 4-3 win in game two of the series on Thursday afternoon. Trailing 3-2, Chryssofos stepped to the dish with a runner on first and two outs and smacked a pitch over the left field fence to give the Tigers the win.
She added a two-run home run in the first inning of a 5-2 win on Saturday and was walked in all three of her plate appearances in the fourth and final game of the series.
A G-MAC First-Team selection last season, Chryssofos is the league’s all-time leader with 30 home runs over the past three seasons. She currently leads the league with seven home runs, 26 RBI and an .847 slugging percentage.
The hitter of the week honor is the third in her career. Chryssofos also earned the laurel on February 22 this season and April 20 last season. She earned the award last season after a four home run weekend against Ursuline.
Chryssofos and the rest of the Salem International softball team were scheduled to be back on Hope Field on Wednesday, March 30 for a G-MAC doubleheader with Ohio Valley.
