MAN — The Chapmanville Regional High School softball team mercied the Man Lady Billies 9-0 in just five innings on Wednesday night at Man.

Kenzie McCann hurled a two-hit shutout and fanned eight batters and walked just one batter in posting the win as the Lady Tigers improved to 11-3 on the season.

The game was close early as the Lady Tigers clinged to a 2-0 lead through four innings of play off Man starter Emilee Walker. The Lady Tigers, however, busted the game wide open in the top half of the fifth inning off Walker, sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs to take a commanding 9-0 advantage.

Hollie Carter led off with a single. Then it was Shian Meeks who ripped an RBI double to make it 3-0.

Grace Belcher then walked and Karah Little then ripped a two-run single to make it 5-0. Kara Browning then doubled and Savannah Wiley singled in two more runs to increase the margin to 7-0. Carter later got her second hit off Walker in the inning, scoring Wiley to make it 8-0. Belcher walked with the bases loaded to force in the final run of the game.

Walker got a one out single off McCann in the bottom of fifth but McCann then fanned Savannah McCormack and got Emilee Toler to ground out to end the game.

Wiley led Chapmanville with a double and a single while Carter had two singles. Meeks, Belcher, Browning, Allie Harless, McCann and Karah Little had one hit each.

Man had just two hits — one each by Walker and Cydnee Lambert, a former Chapmanville player.

The Lady Billies’ lone threat came in the bottom of the fourth with runners at second and third with only one out. McCann then fanned Hunter Harvey and freshman Chelsea Vance to end the rally.

Chapmanville was scheduled to return to action with Wednesday night’s home game against Sissonville. CRHS plays at Sherman on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and hosts Riverside on Saturday at 2 p.m. weather permitting.

Man was slated to play at Logan on Thursday. The Lady Billies host Charleston Catholic on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
