It was a feast for Logan High School softball batters on Tuesday night at home as the Lady Cats pounced on Nitro.
Nitro threw slow-ball pitching Kendra Painter and Logan batters put the hammer down as the Lady Cats rolled to a 10-0, three-inning victory at the Logan Softball Complex.
Logan improved to 10-4 on the season and won its seventh straight game. Nitro, a Class AAA sectional foe, dropped to 1-12.
The Lady Cats are on the roll after a slow start to the season.
The highlight in Tuesday’s game was Logan shortstop Kelsey Ward, who ripped a Painter pitch for a grand slam home run in the second inning as LHS took an 8-0 lead.
Logan added two more runs in the third as Hannah Vance singled and scored on an error and pinch-hitter Khyra Wright ended the game with a bases loaded, walk-off RBI single for the 10th run which envoked the mercy rule.
The Lady Cats plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning as well. Two came home on a Nitro error. Hana Sedlock doubled home the third run and Brooklyn Queen knocked in another with an infield RBI single.
Mahoghani Patton, Taylor Napier, Steph Curry and Larra Elkins added hits for Logan.
Curry pitched the three-inning win over the Lady Cats. She struck out two, walked one and didn’t allow any hits.
Logan was scheduled to play at South Charleston on Wednesday and host Poca on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Then its off to the Best of the Best Tournament at Buffalo where Logan is slated to play Lincoln County at 4 p.m. and Parkersburg South at 6 on Friday. Then on Saturday, LHS takes on Wheeling Park at noon.
POCA — The Chapmanville Regional High School softball team won 8-3 at Poca in Cardinal Conference action, improving to 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the conference.
The Lady Tigers jumped on top 3-0 in the first inning and held on for the win.
Savannah Wiley, Kenzie McCann and Hollie Carter had two hits apiece for Chapmanville, while Shian Meeks added a double and three RBI.
Lindsey Triplett and Casey Skeens had two hits each for the Poca Dots.
CRHS is scheduled to compete Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the annual Best of the Best Tournament at Buffalo.
Chapmanville hosts Wayne on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
