SALEM, W.Va. – Katie Chryssofos is having another big season with the Salem International women’s softball team.
Chryssofos, a senior and Logan High School graduate, was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Hitter of the Week announced the league office on Monday.
Chryssofos, who ranks in the top 15 nationally among NCAA Division II softball players in home runs and RBI, helped the team to a 5-5 record last week with wins over Ohio Valley, Alderson Broaddus and Cedarville.
The Chapmanville native batted .360 (9-of-25) with six home runs, 13 RBI, five runs scored, a stolen base and eight walks during the week.
Chryssofos hit her fifth home run of the week, and the 14th this season, established a new single-season G-MAC and school record.
A G-MAC First-Team selection last season, Chryssofos is the league’s all-time leader with 37 career home runs over the past three seasons. She currently leads the league with 15 home runs, 46 RBI and an .847 slugging percentage. She’s also been walked a conference-high 45 times this season.
The hitter of the week honor is the fourth in her career and third this season. Chryssofos also earned the laurel on February 22 and March 28 this season and April 20 last season.
Chryssofos and the rest of the Salem International softball team have a pair of non-conference doubleheaders on Monday, at Bluefield State and Thursday, when it hosts Fairmont State at 2 p.m.
