Irish top Billies; Tigers down Indians

MAN — Class A No. 7-ranked Charleston Catholic dropped the Man High School baseball team to 4-11 on the season with Monday’s 10-6 win at Man.

Trae Swisher and Dominic Martin each had three hits to lead the Irish. Swisher was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Martin was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.

Tyler Blair led the Hillbillies as he was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Man was scheduled to play at Sherman on Tuesday night. The Billies then host Mount View on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and go to Liberty Raleigh on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. contest.

Chapmanville 6,

Sissonville 5

Class AA No. 2-ranked Chapmanville improved 16-2 overall and 7-2 in the Cardinal Conference with Monday’s 6-5 win over Sissonville in league action at Chapmanville Regional High School’s Ted Ellis Field.

The Tigers were slated to play at 3A Lincoln County on Tuesday night. CRHS plays at Scott on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for a matchup against the Class AA rival Skyhawks. The Tigers play at 3A Point Pleasant on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and host 3A Hurricane on Saturday at noon.

Chapmanville was tied with defending state champion Bridgeport for the No. 1 spot in last week’s Class AA poll but dropped to No. 2 this week. The Indians beat the Tigers 5-0 in last year’s state title game.
