After a stellar performance in Monday’s 6-2 win at home over county rival Man, Logan High School pitcher Chase Burnette has been named as the Logan Banner Athlete of the Week.

Burnette, a senior right-hander, shut down the Hillbillies with a complete-game one-hitter as the Wildcats won over Man in a battle between the Logan County rivals.

Burnette pitched all seven innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out 12 while hitting one batter and walking none.

He had a perfect game alive until the top of the fifth inning before he hit a batter. Burnette had retired the first 12 batters he faced.

Burnette also helped his own cause as he was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Logan improved to 9-7 with the win.

The Cats are scheduled to play at Van on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Logan then hosts St. Albans on Friday at 7 p.m. before going to Cabell Midland on Saturday at noon.
