MAN — Make that 20 wins.

The Man High School softball team improved to 20-4 on the season with Friday’s 3-2 win at home over Buffalo, the five-time Class A defending state champion.

Man swept the season series with Buffalo, also taking an 11-1 win earlier in the spring.

The Lady Billies have won six straight games and 11 out of its last 12.

Man got the bats cracking early when Savannah McCormack led off with a double to left field to start the game.

On the next pitch, McCormack was gunned down at third on a steal attempt.

Then with two outs in the inning, junior Sydney Keffer reached on a throwing error and senior Cydnee Lambert followed with a walk but both were left stranded.

In the top of the second inning, Buffalo plated two unearned runs on two errors by the Man defense to take a 2-0 lead.

Things remained quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning when junior Grace Cline led off with a single to left field and was followed by freshman Allie Meade who singled to center.

Freshman Chelsie Vance then beat out a bunt to load the bases. Pitcher Haylee Daniels then hit a deep fly ball to left field to score Cline cutting the lead to 2-1 after four innings of play.

Man’s defense came up with a big double play in the top of the fifth to retire Buffalo in order.

Man was then able to plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 3-2 in Man’s favor.

Keffer made it to second on a failed running catch attempt by Buffalo’s center fielder. Lambert then singled to left, advancing Keffer. This set the table for Grace Cline and Maddy Paynter who both hit solid shots to the outfield and each picked up an RBI.

The offense was quiet for both teams in the sixth and seventh, ultimately giving Man the 3-2 victory.

Man outhit Buffalo 8-5.

Senior Chase Christie suffered the loss for Buffalo, striking out two and giving four free passes. Junior Haylee Daniels was the winning pitcher for Man as she struck out six and walked six.

The Lady Billies was scheduled to close out the season against Wyoming East at home on Saturday.

Man will then host Tug Valley in the sectional tournament on Tuesday.
