The Logan High School softball team advanced in the Class AAA sectional tournament on Tuesday night in St. Albans with a 13-0 victory over Nitro.
St. Albans downed Nitro 12-1 in Game 1. With the two losses, Nitro was eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.
Logan and St. Albans were slated to begin a best-of-three sectional final on Wednesday night at the St. Albans softball field with a doubleheader.
The Red Dragons were led by Britney Sharp, who was 4-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles in the win over Nitro. She also pitched the win.
Logan is 16-15 on the season, while St. Albans improved to 12-17.
Kelsey Ward pitched the win for Logan as she allowed just two hits over five innings while striking out two and walking none.
Ward was also 3-for-3 at the plate with a three-run homer, four RBI and two singles.
Monica Mitchell had two hits, including a double and three runs batted in.
Larra Elkins had a single and two RBI, while Hannah Vance singled and drove in one run.
Hana Sedlock had a single and a double and one RBI. Jaden Oney ripped two singles, while Amber Stone also had a hit.
Steph Curry singled and had one RBI. Brooklyn Queen also singled.
The Lady Cats beat St. Albans twice during the regular season, picking up 5-4 and 7-3 wins.
Logan went 3-0 this season against Nitro, also taking 13-0 and 10-0 wins and outscoring them 36-0 in three games.
If Logan gets past St. Albans in the sectionals, it would advance to play next Thursday, May 12 at either Point Pleasant or Winfield in the Class AAA regional semifinals.
Man vs. Tug ppd.
The Man High School softball team’s home game with Tug Valley on Tuesday night in the Class A sectional tournament was rained out.
The game was rescheduled for Wednesday night at Man.
The Lady Billies entered the game with a 20-5 record.
