The Man-Tug Valley high school sectional softball matchup didn’t figure to be much of a game anyway.
Tug Valley ended up forfeiting on Wednesday night as Man was declared the Class A sectional champion.
Man (21-5), which had routed the Lady Panthers 12-0 on the road earlier in the season, moved on to next week’s regional semifinals where the Lady Billies are slated to play a team to be determined later.
Man is just two wins away from reaching the state tournament in Vienna once again.
Tug and Man were rained out on Tuesday and the game was pushed to Wednesday. They didn’t end up playing a single inning.
Tug Valley, which has struggled for many years in softball, closed out its season at 3-14. The Lady Panthers surrendered 10 or more runs in all but two games this season.
Tug’s three wins came against Sheldon Clark, Ky. (28-5) and Tolsia twice (15-12, 12-2).
Logan-St. Albans ppd.
The Logan High School softball team’s Class AAA sectional doubleheader at St. Albans on Wednesday was rained out.
Both teams advanced with wins over Nitro on Tuesday as St. Albans won 12-1 and Logan prevailed 13-0.
Logan (16-15) and St. Albans were set to meet on Thursday night in a twinbill. A decisive Game 3 would then be played on Friday night at St. Albans if the two teams split.
The sectional winner moves on to play at either Winfield or Point Pleasant in next Thursday’s regional semifinals.
Winfield beat Point 8-4 in Game 1 of its best-of-three sectional series on Tuesday night at Winfield. Game 2 on Wednesday was rained out and moved to Thursday.
