Alex Berry saved the day for the Chapmanville Regional High School baseball team.
Berry ripped a three-run hit in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift the Class AA No. 3-ranked Tigers to a 3-1 win over the rival Man Hillbillies at Chapmanville’s Ted Ellis Field.
Berry finished with two hits and three RBI in the game.
Chapmanville improved to 22-3 on the year with the win and swept the season series with Man, also taking a 4-0 victory on April 13 on the road.
The Billies dropped to 7-15 with the loss.
Josh Zigmond tossed five shutout innings and struck out five batters.
Jake Adkins suffered the loss for the Billies. He struck out two.
Kenny Jo Adkins had two hits to lead Man.
Man scored one run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The Billies outhit Chapmanville 5-3. Man committed two errors in the game. Chapmanville didn’t have any.
Chapmanville’s home game with Herbert Hoover on Monday night was rained out. The Tigers are scheduled to host Mingo Central on Friday at 6 p.m. and then play at Hurricane on Saturday at 6.
CRHS begins its best-of-three Class AA sectional series with Scott next Tuesday at home in a 6 p.m. start. Game 2 is Wednesday at Scott.
Man was slated to play at Mount View on Thursday. The Billies host Liberty Raleigh on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
