The Chapmanville Regional High School track and field team made a strong showing recently in the Cardinal Conference Championship, which were held at Charleston’s Laidley Field.
The Chapmanville 4×200 relay team took first place with a time of 1:57.31. The team was made up of seniors NeNe Osborne and Adrianna Lucas, junior Abby Marcum and sophomore Catherine Carter.
The CRHS boys 4×400 relay team was first with a time of 3:47.85. The team was comprised of seniors Jeff Lunsford and Andrew Thompson, junior Jeremy Lilly and Cypriel Nwafor-Fidelis, a junior from Nigeria.
Osborne was also second in the 100-meter dash, while Marcum took third in the same event.
Marcum was also second in the 200-meter dash.
Osborne, Marcum, Lucas and Carter also took second place in the 4×100 relay.
Chapmanville junior Richelle Thompson was third place in the discus with a personal best throw of 84 feet, 7 inches.
On the boys’ side, Lilly took second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.73.
“He is new to the sport this year and has definitely been an asset to the team,” CRHS coach Joetta Thompson said.
Andrew Thompson, a senior, who just recently signed with University of Charleston to run track for them, placed second in the 800-meter run. He currently holds the school record in that event. His time this meet was 2:14.17.
Our CRHS boys’ 4×200 team also came in second place. The team consisted of Thompson, Lilly, Nwafor-Fidelis and Will Seigman.
Seigman also placed fourth in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
The CRHS track team is set to compete in the Class AA regional meet on Friday.
