Believe it or not but sectional baseball tournament time is here.
Logan, Chapmanville and Man are scheduled to begin play in the post-season this week.
The Man High School baseball team, which has so far had a down year after last season’s Class A runner-up finish and winning the 2014 state championship, was scheduled to open up play in its Class A sectional tournament at Tug Valley on Monday night.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series is set for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Man.
The Hillbillies, which have dropped four straight games heading into the sectionals and five out of their last six contests, enter the tournament with a 7-16 record. Tug Valley, on an eight-game losing skid, is just 2-14.
The two teams did not meet during the regular season.
Man is led by ace pitcher Jake Adkins.
The Chapmanville Regional High School team, ranked No. 2 in the state in Class AA, is slated to open play in its best-of-three game Region 4 Section 3 tournament on Tuesday at home against Scott. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Chapmanville’s Ted Ellis Field.
Chapmanville is 23-3 overall on the season, while Scott is 14-13.
The Tigers beat Scott twice during the regular season to the tune of 16-6 and 8-2 and are heavy favorites to sweep the Skyhawks.
Chapmanville is led by Chris Bailey, Alex Berry, Jacob Dingess, Noah Dingess, Josh Zigmond and a host of others.
Game 2 is slated for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Scott.
The Tigers would likely have to play No. 5 Wayne (17-7) and No. 6 Sissonville (17-7) in the regional tournament if CRHS advances.
The Logan baseball team (11-8) is scheduled to play one more time in the Class AAA sectional tournament before going back down to AA next season.
The Region 4 Section 2 tourney is set to begin on Thursday as St. Albans plays at No. 3-ranked Nitro (15-10) at 6 p.m.
On Friday, Nitro plays at Logan in a 6 p.m. game at Logan’s Roger Gertz Field.
Then on Saturday, Logan is set to play at St. Albans at 2 p.m.
Logan is led by pitchers Jared Shawver and Chase Burnette.
Nitro comes in as the tourney favorite. The Nitro Wildcats beat Hurricane 3-1 last week to take its first MSAC championship since 2009. Senior Matt Harrison hit a three-run homer to lift Nitro.
Nitro beat Logan in last year’s sectional finals. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.
LHS beat St. Albans 4-3 at home in the only meeting between the two teams.
