The Logan High School baseball team has had its ups and downs this season.
The Wildcats scored perhaps their best win of the season on Monday night at home as unranked Logan took down Class AAA No. 2-ranked Hurricane, 3-1, at Logan’s Roger Gertz Field.
Logan (12-8) scored two runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. The Cats added another run in the third.
Senior left-hander Jared Shawver notched the win on the mound as he went four quality innings and gave up one earned run while striking out two. Chase Burnette tossed the last three innings, striking out four and earning the save.
Logan outhit Hurricane 6-3. The Cats had one error in the game to two for the Skins.
Will Akers hit a home run for Logan. Burnette was 2-for-3, while Alex Toler, Shawver and Tyler Browning all had one hit each.
Logan is now off until Friday night’s Class AAA sectional tournament opener at home against Nitro. Game time is 6 p.m. LHS then plays at St. Albans on Saturday at 2 p.m. in its second sectional game.
St. Albans plays at Nitro on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the first game of the section tourney.
