WILLIAMSON — The Man High School baseball team mercied the Tug Valley Panthers in first round sectional play on Monday night at Williamson’s Lefty Hamilton Park, by a 13-0 score in six innings of play.

Man senior lefty Jake Adkins went the full six innings, hurling a three-hit shutout and striking out 11 while senior John Thomas Keffer supplied the power with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning to give MHS the lead for good.

Tyler Estep suffered the loss for the Panthers.

Cameron Simpson led off the game in the top of the first inning with a solid single off Estep. Kenny Jo Adkins then walked and Keffer then crushed a fast ball over the left centerfield fence to give the Billies a 3-0 lead. It was Keffer’s 12th career homer at MHS and fourth in post-season play including one in the state tournament.

Seth Chapman then ripped a ball to the fence in center for a triple and scored on an RBI single by Tyler Blair to make it 4-0. Blair later scored to give Man a 5-0 advantage.

Adkins gave up a single to Zach Samuel with two out in the bottom of the first inning but Adkins then fanned Noah Lucas to end the inning.

Man pushed its lead to 8-0 in the top of the second stanza, scoring three more runs.

Simpson was hit by a pitch and Kenny Jo Adkins then grounded out. Keffer then got his fourth RBI of the game — just missing a homer off the left field fence for a double to make it 6-0. Chapman then singled, moving Keffer to third base.

Keffer then scored on a wild pitch to give Man a 7-0 lead. Nick Collins singled, scoring Chapman to give the Billies a 8-0 lead.

Kyle Sturgill got a two-out hit off Jake Adkins but Adkins then got Dakota Vance out on strikes to end the threat.

The Billies pushed a single run across the plate in the top half of the third inning. Simpson reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single off the bat of Kenny Jo Adkins to make it 9-0. Adkins then fanned Sammy Ferris and Corbin Oliver and got Gage Stacy to ground out.

Both teams went out quietly in the fifth frame.

Man pushed four more runs across in the top of the sixth inning off Estep to take a commanding 13-0 lead.

Chapman and Blair had back-to-back walks to start the inning. Collins then singled to load the bases up. Austin Gent then got hit by a pitch to make it 10-0. Goodman then got a single for two RBIs to give Man 12-0 lead. Man then got its final run of the game on an RBI single by Simpson to make it 13-0.

Adkins then closed the door on the Panthers, striking out Ferris and then got Stacy to ground out and struck out Oliver to end the game.

Man was led in hitting by Keffer, who finished with four RBI. Chapman had a triple and a single, while Collins and Simpson had two hits each. Blair and Gent each had a single and Goodman had a single and two RBI.

Tug Valley had three hits for the game — one each by Zach Samuel, Oliver and Tyler Estep.

Jake Adkins got the win as he struck out 11.

The Panthers had three errors to none for Man.
