CHAPMANVILLE — The Chapmanville 9-10-year-old Little League All-Stars advanced in the District 2 Tournament with Wednesday night’s rain-delayed 12-4 win over Man at Chapmanville’s Tracy Vickers Field.
Chapmanville (3-1) advanced to play on Friday at 6 p.m. against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
Man was knocked out of the double-elimination tourney and finished 2-2.
Logan was set to play Madison in Thursday night’s District 2 championship game. The winner moves on to play in the 9-10 state tournament, which is scheduled to be played at Chapmanville beginning on July 10.
Matewan (1-1) also advanced in the District 2 tourney with Wednesday night’s 12-1 win over Tug Valley (0-2). The game was stopped in the third inning and Tug Valley had to forfeit because it only had eight players left after one of its players had to leave the game due to injury. TV started the game with just nine players.
Chapmanville plated seven runs in the first inning of Wednesday’s game and never looked back. C-ville added a run in the fourth and four more in the fifth. Man scored one run in the first and three in the fourth.
Caleb Whitt had three hits for Chapmanville with a double and two singles. Trey Butcher had a double and a single. Jordan Hayes rapped out a double, while Brody Dalton and Eli Surgoine each had a single.
Jeremiah Harless and Jayden Brown each ripped a double for Man. Hunter Gibson had two singles. Jade Adkins and Drake Veres each singled.
Dalton was the starting and winning pitcher for Chapmanville.
