Ever since Logan High School has rejoined the Cardinal Conference that has made football scheduling a snap for LHS Athletics Director Brian Atkinson.

In fact, Atkinson has completed Logan’s football schedules all the way until 2020.

Logan won’t play a full slate of Cardinal Conference games until 2017 as it will have to honor the second year of two-year contracts this fall with Class AAA teams John Marshall and Greenbrier East as well as games against Lincoln County, Point Pleasant and Oak Hill.

But starting in 2017, Logan will add conference teams Mingo Central, Wayne, Winfield, Nitro and Herbert Hoover.

Since the newly expanded Cardinal Conference will have 10 teams starting this fall with the additions of Logan, Nitro and Winfield, the Wildcats will play nine conference games from 2017-2020 with traditional county rival Man being the only non-league contest on the schedule.

Logan is scheduled to open the 2016 football season on Aug. 25 at home against Man on a Thursday night in the Kickoff Classic at Logan Stadium. It’s expected to be one of the few games played across the state of West Virginia on that night.

The Wildcats are also scheduled to play Man in the season openers in the 2017-2020 seasons.

In the 2017 season, Logan will add Mingo Central, Winfield, Nitro, Herbert Hoover and Wayne to its schedule. Week 11 will be the open date, meaning Logan will play 10 games in 10 weeks.

In the ‘17 schedule, Logan will open at Man, then host Sissonville and Mingo Central the next two weeks.

In Week 4, Logan travels to Poca, then hosts Winfield in Week 5 and travels to Nitro in Week 6.

The Week 7 game has Scott traveling to Logan. LHS will then play at Herbert Hoover, host county rival Chapmanville in Week 9 and travel to play the Wayne Pioneers in Week 10.

This season, Logan’s only Cardinal Conference games are against Poca, Chapmanville, Sissonville and Scott.

Logan last played the Poca Dots in its last go-round in Class AA ball from 2003-08.

With Logan only having four official conference games this season, five others will most likely be designated as league games.

The Wildcats are coming off a 4-6 season and will look for more wins as they return to the Class AA ranks.

Logan made it to the 2A playoffs twice under Gary Mullins. Since moving up to Class AAA in 2008, the Cats advanced to the post-season three more times.
