The Chapmanville Regional High School baseball team put up some big numbers this season with a 23-5 record despite getting shocked by Scott two games to none in its Class AA sectional tournament.

Ten Tigers were named recently to the All-Cardinal Conference Baseball Team.

Chris Bailey, Alex Berry, Jacob Dingess, Noah Dingess and Josh Zigmond were named to the first team.

Chapmanville’s Adam Vance, Josh Bazzilla, Tyler Shannon, Ryan Craddock and Conner Mullins were voted to the second team.

The All-Cardinal team was picked by the league coaches.

The baseball landscape will be changing next season for Chapmanville, which moves into a new Class AA sectional (Region 4 Section 2) with county rivals Logan and Man, as well as Scott, Mingo Central and Lincoln County.

Logan is dropping down to 2A from Class AAA, while Man is moving up to the Double-A ranks from Single-A. Lincoln County is also dropping from 3A to 2A.

The Tigers haven’t played Logan since its 35-3 state championship season of 2011.

It’s not clear how the post-season tournament will be played.

One plan has the sectional teams splitting up as Chapmanville could face off with Man and Logan and Scott would play LCHS and Mingo Central in its sectional.

The SSAC Board of Directors is also looking at at plan that would change the post-season format dramatically. If the plan is approved, teams would play a double-elimination sectional next year and then would play a best-of-three series in the regionals in order to make it to the four-team state tournament.

A decision is expected to be made later in June.

The Cardinal Conference will also be taking on a new look with the additions of former 3A schools Logan, Nitro and Winfield.

Nitro was this year’s Class AAA runner-up after falling 11-2 to Jefferson in the state championship game. Nitro will also be leaving the Mountain State Athletic Conference, where it was a charter member in 1993.

Class AA Region 4 Section 1 will be made up of Nitro, Point Pleasant, Poca, Sissonville, Wayne and Winfield.
