A summer tradition began this week as the Little League Baseball All-Star tournaments got under way with the District 2 7-8-year-old Coach Pitch tourney at Madison.
The tournament was scheduled to conclude on Friday and Saturday.
Chapmanville, Logan, Man and Holden were slated to take part in the tourney as well as Mullens, Matewan, Madison, Pineville, Tug Valley, Wharton-Barrett, Oceana and Welch.
The 9-10-year-old District 2 Little League Tournament is slated to get started on Saturday in Pineville with three games.
Chapmanville is scheduled to play Matewan in the opener at 2 p.m. at the Pineville Little League field, while Logan plays host Pineville at 4 and Man battles with Madison at 6 in the double-elimination event.
On Sunday, Welch plays the Chapmanville/Matewan winner at 2 p.m. Then at 4 p.m., the Logan/Pineville winner squares off with the Man/Madison winner. The 6 p.m. closer has the Logan/Pineville loser playing the Man/Madison loser in an elimination game.
Action continues on Monday with a pair of games at 6 and 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, June 28, the championship game is set to be played at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m., a winner’s bracket contest will take place.
Then on Wednesday, June 29, the runner-up game is set to be played at 6 p.m.
The winner and runner-up both advance to the upcoming 9-10 state tourney, slated to begin July 8 at Elkins.
* The 11-12-year-old District 2 Little League tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 2 and will be played at The Logan Little League’s Paul Hale Field.
The tournament schedule has not yet been released.
The 11-12 state tourney begins July 22 at Bridgeport.
