The Madison 9-10-year-old Little League All-Stars wrapped up the District 2 championship and a trip to the upcoming state tournament with Wednesday night’s 7-0 win over Chapmanville at the Pineville Little League field.
Chapmanville was scheduled to play Man on Thursday for the district runner-up spot and the other berth in the state tourney. Man eliminated rival Logan, 12-11, on Wednesday night to advance.
In the Madison-Chapmanville game, Madison was led by Matt Frye, who had a single, a double and a triple, nearly hitting for the cycle. Hunter Null had two singles for Madison, while Kaden Underwood had a double. Owen Adkins added a single.
Madison scored one run in the first inning, two in the third, three in the fifth and one more in the sixth inning.
Talon Thompson and Sam Miller had the only two hits for Chapmanville.
Thompson was the starting pitcher for Chapmanville. Null was the starting and winning pitcher for Madison.
In the Man/Logan game, Man led 11-9 after five innings. Logan then tied it 11-11 with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Man then won it in the bottom of the sixth as Drake Veres walked, Kaden Dickerson singled, Hunter Gibson walked to load bases with no outs and Veres eventually scored on wild pitch.
Jacob Bartram had a double and a single for Man, while Hunter Gibson had two singles. Brad Brown, Bo Thompson and Kaden Dickerson all singled. Cameron Gerace doubled.
Logan was led by leadoff man and catcher Cole Blankenship, who had three hits, including a double and two singles. Joey Canterbury also had three hits with a pair of singles. Caden Baisden and Luke Blankenship each had a trio of hits as well with a double and two singles.
Sheldon Stone had a pair of singles for Logan. Devin Stewart also singled.
