Logan 11-12s set to play at state

The Logan and Madison 11-12-year-old Little League All-Stars are scheduled to open play in the state tournament this weekend at Bridgeport.

The Logan All-Stars, the District 2 runner-ups, are slated to begin play in the 14-team, double-elimination state tournament on Friday at 6 p.m. against Sophia, the District 4 champions.

In other Bracket B games on Friday Fairmont plays Elkins at 1 p.m. and Central Greenbrier takes on Jefferson at 3:30 p.m.

Madison, the District 2 champions, get a first-round bye and are set to face the Fairmont/Elkins winner on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Logan/Sophia winner advances to play the Central Greenbrier/Jefferson winner on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The two losers play on Saturday at a time to be determined later.

The Bracket A, Charleston Central plays Barboursville on Friday at noon in Game 1. Game 2 has Hampshire battling it out against South Charleston at 2:30 on Friday. The Game 3 matchup has Braxton County facing off with Ceredo-Kenova at 6 on Friday.

Host Bridgeport has a first-round bye and is slated to play the Charleston Central/Barboursville winner on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The tournament continues on Sunday and Monday. On Tuesday at 5:30 and 7:30 the two state semifinals are set to be played.

The 11-12 state championship game is set for Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to play in the Southeast Regionals.

* Last week in the 9-10-year-old state championship game at Tygarts Valley, Ona defeated Bridgeport 8-7 in the state finals.

Ona advanced with a 12-2 win over Martinsburg in one of the two state semifinals. Bridgeport was a 14-9 winner over Barboursville.
