MADISON — Pineville rolled to a 19-1 win over Omar on Monday night during the first night of the 11-12-year-old District 2 Little League baseball tournament at the Madison Little League Field.
Pineville plated two runs in the first inning, six in the second and 11 runs in the fourth.
The game was stopped after four innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Pineville (1-0) was led by Ty Dominick and Luke Laxton, who each hit two-run, inside-the-park home runs.
Pineville’s Brandon Simpson also had three hits, including two triples, and a pair of RBIs.
Nick Grimmett had two hits and also had a two-run triple in Pineville’s 11-run fourth.
Laxton and Tommy Davis had two hits each. One of Davis’ hits was an RBI triple. Pitcher Jacob Riley had an RBI double. Riling was the starting and winning pitcher for Pineville. Brandon Webb started for Omar.
Omar (0-1) scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the third as Anthony Smithwick walked and after scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-1. Omar batters struck out 10 times.
The 11-12 tourney consists of 10 teams and is divided into two pools.
In Pool A is Logan, Chapmanville, Madison, Man and Wharton-Barrett.
In Pool B is Omar, Pineville, Welch, Tug Valley and Mullens.
The tournament is scheduled to conclude on July 15 with the District 2 championship game. Both the winner and runner-up advance to the upcoming 11-12 Little League State Tournament which is scheduled to be played this year at Petersburg.
The District 2 tourney was scheduled to continue on Tuesday as Welch played Tug Valley and Man battled with host Madison.
On Wednesday, Logan squares off with Wharton-Barrett at 6 p.m. and Mullens takes on Omar at 8.
Two more games are set for Thursday, July 9 as Welch plays Pineville at 6 p.m. and Chapmanville takes on homestanding Madison at 8.
Then on Friday, two more games are on tap as Man plays Wharton-Barrett at 6 p.m. and Tug Valley squares off against Mullens at 8.
Four games are set to be played on Saturday, July 11, beginning with the Omar-Welch game at 9 a.m. Then at 11 a.m., Logan battles it out with Madison. At 1 p.m., Chapmanville plays Man. Then at 3 p.m., Tug Valley takes on Pineville.
The tournament continues on Sunday, July 12 with four more games. Mullens plays Pineville at 9 a.m. and Chapmanville takes on Wharton-Barrett at 11 o’clock. The 1 p.m. game has Logan and Man squaring off. Then at 3 p.m., Tug Valley plays Omar.
Two more contests are on tap for Monday, July 13 as Mullens plays Welch at 6 p.m. and Madison squares off with Wharton-Barrett at 8.
Then on Tuesday, July 14 two semifinal games are set to be played at 6 and 8.
The championship game is set for Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m.
