Logan splits in state tournament

The Logan 11-12-year-old Little League All-Star Little League baseball team split in its games over the weekend in the state tournament at Bridgeport.

Logan lost 9-3 to Sophia on Friday, then beat Central Greenbrier 20-10 on Saturday. Logan was scheduled to play Fairmont, the District 6 runner-up, on Sunday in a loser’s bracket elimination game.

No score was available.

District 2 was also represented in the tournament by the champion Madison All-Stars, which won 5-4 over Fairmont on Saturday in second-round action after getting a first-round bye. Madison then lost to Jefferson on Sunday.

In other Bracket B games, Fairmont beat Elkins 20-3 on Friday, while Jefferson prevailed 8-2 over Central Greenbrier. Jefferson advanced with a 7-5 second-round win over Sophia on Saturday and then moved on to the state semifinals.

In Bracket A games on Friday, Barboursville won 7-6 over Charleston Central, South Charleston beat Hamsphire 12-10 and Ceredo-Kevona took a 12-2 win over Braxton County.

Barboursville advanced on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Bridgeport and South Charleston moved on with a 10-9 win over C-K.

Barboursville then moved on to the state semifinals with Sunday’s 21-9 win over South Charleston.

Hampshire advanced with a 20-5 win over Braxton County, then were eliminated in an 8-0 loss to host Bridgeport. C-K survived on Sunday with a 5-3 victory over Charleston Central.

* The Man 13-year-old All-Stars finished with a 1-2 showing over the weekend in the Southeast Regionals in Apopka, Fla.

Man, the West Virginia State champs, lost 18-2 to North Carolina last Friday, then advanced with a 25-3 win over Alabama on Saturday. Man was ousted from the tourney with Sunday’s 11-0 shutout loss to Virginia.

Host Florida advanced to the regional championship game with Sunday’s 25-7 win over South Carolina. Florida was set to meet either South Carolina or North Carolina in the finals.
