Just as the old Prince song says, the Logan High School football team is partying like it’s 1999.

The Wildcats are bringing back something from the past this season with throwback helmet decals.

The last couple of years, Logan used the large Wildcat profile.

In the 2000s, Logan had its Kansas State Wildcat side profile logo.

LHS also has gone with the plain blue helmet.

But this year, LHS will have a new look with its old traditional logo — a West Virginia geographical state outline with a L in the center.

Logan had this look back in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Back then it was a Vegas or Notre Dame style gold helmet with a black West Virignia outline and gold L.

The new version is a blue helmet with a more yellowish gold state outline.

The new look seems to suit head coach Gary Mullins, his staff and players.

“That was my helmet when I played here,” Mullins said of the old logo. “We just really didn’t like the Wildcat decal all that much. Last year, we had already decided that we would go to this. Stereo Video does all of the helmets for us. When we stuck it on there we knew that’s what we were going to go with.”

Mullins said the Logan football team plans on keeping the new look.

“We’re going to stick with this one,” he said. “We think that we’ve found one that we finally like.”

Preseason Week 2

All three Logan County high school football teams are scheduled to see their final preseason tests this Saturday.

Logan and Chapmanville are scheduled to take part in the Cardinal Conference Gridorama on Saturday at Scott High School in Madison.

The Man Hillbillies are slated to hit the road on Saturday to play in the River View Gridorama. Man is matched up against Grundy (Va.).

Chapmanville faces Winfield at 10:15 a.m. in the first of five Cardinal Conference Gridorama games.

Logan takes on Mingo Central at 5 p.m.

Season Openers

The regular season kicks off Aug. 25-26 as all 10 Cardinal Conference teams are slated to see action.

Three conference games are on tap on Aug. 26 as Chapmanville hits the road to play at Sissonville, Herbert Hoover goes to Scott and new member Nitro plays at rival Poca.

The first game is set for Aug. 25 as new league member Logan hosts Man on a non-conference game.

On Aug. 26, Mingo Central plays at Wyoming East, Wayne plays at former league foe and 2015 conference champion Tolsia and Class AAA Hurricane plays at Winfield, another new member.
