David Early put up some Arena Football League like numbers last week in the Logan High School football team’s 61-11 pounding of the Poca Dots last week.
For his efforts, the Logan freshman quarterback has been named as the Logan Banner Athlete of the Week.
Early, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound frosh, accounted for seven touchdowns — six passing and one rushing — as the Wildcats won in a blitzkrieg over the Dots last Friday night at Logan Stadium.
Early was 13 of 20 passing for 243 yards with TD passes covering 12, 39, 30, 14, 9 and 34 yards. He also ran with the ball five times for 39 yards and an 8-yard TD run.
One of Early’s TD passes came on a gadget play.
On the last play of the first half, Logan struck pay dirt with its old hook-and-ladder play which has been succcessful in past years.
Early dropped back and fired a pass to Jamal Minter, who then pitched to Trice Boatwright, who streaked down the sideline for a 26-yard touchdown.
On the season Early is 25 of 38 (65.8 percent) passing for 483 yards with nine touchdowns and no interceptions.
