MADISON — The Man 11-12-year-old All-Stars improved to 2-0 with a lopsided 21-0 mercy-rule, no-hit win in just four innings over Wharton-Barrett on Friday night in Madison.
Man pounded out 16 hits in the four-inning game.
Caleb Blevins got the win as he and Ryan Cozart and Preston Blankenship combined for the no-hitter.
Man sent 11 batters to plate in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five runs to take a 5-0 lead and never looked back in posting the shutout win.
Cozart led off with a single, followed by a single by Blankenship off Wharton-Barrett starter Kalen Booth.
Cozart and Blankenship both later stole home on wild pitches as Man took a 2-0 advantage.
Cameron Frye had a infield hit RBI to give Man 3-0 lead.
Josh Lambert added an RBI hit to make it 4-0. Josh Carter then had a single and Brady Hall then reached on an error as Man pushed the lead to 5-0. Cozart then walked to load up the bases. Booth then got Blankenship to fly out to end the innning.
Blevins struck out the side in the top of the second inning of play. He fanned Slade Adams, Jasmine Gibson and Booth in order.
Man added two more runs off Booth in the bottom half of the second stanza to take a 7-0 lead. Blevins reached on an error. Corey Miller then doubled, scoring Blevins to make it 6-0. Miller later scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Mika Walker to give Man 7-0 lead.
Blankenship then took over for Blevins on the mound and after two walks in the inning with one out, Blankenship fanned Chris Rice and Morgan Weaver to end the threat.
Man broke the game wide open in the bottom of the third frame, sending 18 batters to the plate and scoring 14 runs. The big hits were inside-the-park homers by Blevins and Frye off Wharton-Barrett relief pitcher Adams. With the bases loaded, Walker had a bases-clearing single for three RBI, while Brady Hall added a double and two RBI in the frame as Man took a commanding 21-0 lead.
After two Wharton-Barrett walks the Man All-Stars then closed the door on the WB All-Stars as the game was halted due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Man was led in hitting by Blankenship, who had three singles. Cozart had two singles, while Blevins helped his own cause with an inside-the-park home run and three RBIs.
Miller had a triple and a double. Frye added an inside-the-park homer and three RBIs. Walker had a single and a triple with three runs knocked in. Hall had a single and a double with two RBI, while Josh Lambert had a single and an RBI. Josh Carter added a single.
