LOGAN, W.Va. — Jay Trump was happy to see his Logan High School soccer team get a win last Saturday as the Wildcats blanked Belfry (Ky.) 1 to nil over the Pirates at Logan Stadium.
Logan is now 4-5-1 on the season.
The Wildcats won the game late as Walter Macnamara, Logan’s usual goalie, kicked home a penalty shot.
“It was an awesome game,” Coach Trump said. “Both teams fought hard. We thought we were going to end up with a tie but Belfry ended up handballing it inside of the box which gave us a penalty shot on goal. Walter Macnamara, who is usually our goalie, was in pain after the Sissonville game on Thursday and played on the field and end up taking the penalty shot and made it, giving us the 1-0 lead.”
Logan was defeated 7-0 at Sissonville last Thursday.
The Wildcats are 2-2 over their last four matches.
“It was a great way to end a week of soccer. It was a pretty good week, now let’s get ready for next week,” Trump said. “We knew Sissonville was going to be a tough team and they were. For some reason we just weren’t working as a team and fell short on the shots we had on goal. Sissonville plays on natural grass and when you play 95 percent on turf the slow ball reaction didn’t help my team out.”
Logan is scheduled to return to action with this Saturday’s conference match at Herbert Hoover. Kickoff is 11 a.m.
LHS then plays at Belfry on Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. in a rematch with the Pirates before hosting Mingo Central on Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
