The Logan High School soccer team dropped to 4-9-1 on the season with Tuesday night’s 4-1 loss at Grace Christian in a match played at Barboursville.

The game was held at 0-0 for most of the first half then the Wildcats were called for a handball which led to a penalty shot goal for Grace Christian.

Grace led 3-0 at halftime.

Logan got back into it with a header goal by Dino Noe.

“There was good defense on both ends,” Logan coach Jay Trump said. “We had a shot on goal but their goalie stopped it leading to a corner kick for Logan. Joey Vinson was taking the kick, with him and Dino Noe working together. Vinson made a picture perfect corner kick to Noe allowing him to head it in.”

Grace Christian then scored one more goal to put the match out of reach.

“At the Barboursville soccer fields there are no lights and the sun had already set, but the refs let the game to continue with low visibility,” Trump said. “While at twilight Walter Macnamara, who was playing goalie, took a hard hit and we had to pull him off allowing Austin Thompson to try and help out in goal. We end up giving up one more goal leaving the score at 4-1.”

Trump said his team continued to fight until the end.

“The Wildcats might have lost this game but they never gave up,” he said. “Everyone played with all heart and not once did I see a head hanging. This is all we can ask of our kids. We are playing one tough schedule instead of easing our way into it. We jumped feet first and not once have we stopped. Way to go Wildcats by playing with heart and giving it your all.”

Logan is scheduled to return to the soccer pitch on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Nitro.

The two teams met in the season opener at Nitro winning 11-1.

Nitro is one of the state’s top ranked teams and enter the contest with a record to 12-1-3. Nitro is 5-0-1 over its last six matches.

Logan’s home match on Thursday night against Mingo Central has been cancelled.

An error was made in Tuesday’s Logan Banner sports in the Logan-Belfry match report. Logan beat Belfry 1-0 earlier in the season and gained a season series split with the Pirates. It was incorrectly reported that Belfry had swept the season series with LHS.
