CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — The Chapmanville Regional High School soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Teays Valley Christian on Tuesday night at Chapmanville’s Tiger Stadium.
Austin Hanshaw scored the lone goal for the Tigers, which improved to 6-9-2 on the season.
It was also Senior Night for CRHS as Chapmanville honored its 12th-grade players, including Austin Adams, Dylan Brown, Joe Toth, Fidelis Nwafor and Christian Stafford.
“It was a good night and the community was all there and into Senior Night,” CRHS coach Greg Dillon said. “The Christian and Catholic schools are very good. We got outstanding efforts from Austin Hanshaw, James Ellis, Tyler Carter, Dillon Renniger and Zach Lamb. The defensive standouts were Ryan Belcher, Christian Stafford and Austin Adams. Dylan Brown was beating the goal post all night but nothing went in the net.”
The Tigers were scheduled to get back into action with Thursday’s match at Tug Valley. CRHS then hosts Mercer Christian on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the regular season finale.
The Class AA/A sectionals are set to begin next week as Chapmanville is scheduled to play Huntington St. Joe on Monday at 6 p.m. at Barboursville.
Coach Dillon said it’s been a good first season of soccer.
“We’ve played a lot of teams this season and I wanted my first year’s team to experience the highs and lows and good and bad of everything,” he said. “They are developing skills and character. These concepts will hopefully carry over to life. It’s not just about the win/loss record. They are winners just by competing.”
