NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — The Logan High School soccer team went to Tug Valley on Monday and shut out the Panthers 4-0.
Logan swept the season series with the Panthers and improved to 5-10-1 on the season. The Wildcats had won 10-0 on Sept. 12 at home over Tug.
Tug Valley is fielding a soccer team for the first time in school history just like Logan.
Michael Honeycutt had two goals for Logan and Cameron Adkins and Walker Jeffery had one goal each. Jeffery’s goal was a header that found the back of the net.
Logan was scheduled to host Lincoln County on Wednesday in the regular season finale.
“They are a very good team and it will be a great match to watch,” Logan coach Jay Trump said. “Earlier in the year we had a JV match and both teams had a good night. It ended in a good tone, but now this upcoming game will be a varsity level game and will be at a different note. I feel like we are evenly matched up with them. If we come out ready to play, that’s been a shortfall for us this year.”
Trump said his team need to step up to the challenge. The sectional tournament is set to be played Oct. 17-21.
“We come out on fire and ready to play anyone or we come out flat and don’t have that fire in our eyes,” he said. “But being a first year team we have shown what we can bring to the table. It’s just getting that same energy and bringing it every time. But that will take time and with the leadership we can have on the team it will come.”
