Also preceding him in death was his wife of 47 years, Carol Sue Bryant Marcum; brothers, Flem, Patrick, Owen, Walter, Laffette and Harrison; sisters, Mary, Beatrice and Edith; daughter, Judith and her daughter Tonya; granddaughters, Josephine and Kathleen, and two grandsons, Matthew and Mark.
John was a retired security officer for Marrowbone Development, and the former owner of the Space Age Club. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, serving during the Korean War.
Survivors include four daughters, Tammy (Franklin) Waller of Fort Gay, Daphne McNeely (Melvin) of Dingess, Cathy Jo Alexander of Georgia and Charrie Hayward of Tacoma, Wash.; four sons, John B. Marcum Jr. of Dingess, Emory Lee Marcum and Patrick Marcum, both of Lenore, and Clayton Derek Marcum of Ohio; five granddaughters, Valarie (Chris) Copley of Delbarton, Carolann Caudell (Seth) of Charleston, Donica McNeely of Dingess/Lenore, Melody Hood of Georgia and Kristil Cook of Washington State; six grandsons, Ricky (Randi) Dials of Warfield, Ky., Emory (Jennifer) Marcum of Chattaroy, Stephen (Alex) of Lenore, Matthew Hall of Ohio, and Jimmy Ed Urech and John, both of Georgia; 30 step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of neices, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends, and a very special bird, CoCo.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 11, at the Fellowship Baptist Church at Lenore with Rev. Curtis Booth officiating. Burial will follow in Lenore Memorial Gardens at Lenore.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. for family and from 6 p.m. -12 a.m. for the public Thursda at the church.
