Mingo County man killed when backhoe goes into river

VERNER, W.Va. (AP) — A Mingo County man is dead after the backhoe he was operating went into the Guyandotte River.

Media outlets report that the accident occurred about 6 p.m. Wednesday near Verner.

State Police say the victim was in his 90s. His name hasn’t been released. State Police say the man was trapped in the water for nearly two hours after he backed up the backhoe into the river. He later died at Logan Regional Medical Center.
