The annual Marshall University Big Green Coaches Tour is scheduled to makes a stop in Logan County at the Logan Country Club on Wednesday, June 8. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. with the golf scramble to get under way at 1:30 p.m. The event will be attended by Marshall Athletic Director Mike Hamrick, head football coach Doc Holliday and mens basketball coach Tom Herrion. Womens golf coach Meredith Rowsey and womens basketball coach Royce Chadwick are also slated to be at the event. The Logan Area Marshall Athletic Club is also pleased to announce that the 2011 Marshall honoree will be Logan head baseball coach and Marshall standout Roger Gertz. Gertz began his coaching career in 1975 as an assistant to Jack Summers. His first head coaching position came a year in 1976. Gertz held that position through the 1981 season. He came back as an assistant in 1983 and kept that position through 1986. Gertz again became the head coach in 1987 and has held the position until now. In his 31 years as a head coach, Gertz has won over 650 games. This includes coaching all six state championship teams with five of them as a head coach. Gertz started all three years (1964-66) at Logan High School as a player. After graduation from LHS, he enrolled at Marshall University where he was a member of Jack Cooks first recruiting class. There he was a three-year starter. He was named second team All-MAC and captained the Herd baseball team his senior year. The cost for lunch is $25.
