Local college golfers Zac Gresham and Tyler Browning continued their hot start to the fall college golf season.
Gresham, a former Chapmanville Regional High School golfer, fired rounds of 77 and 72 to tie his best career score at 5-over par 149 in leading his West Liberty team to a sixth-place finish at the WVIAC Central Regional Conference Tournament at Canaan Valley a couple of weekends ago.
Not to be outdone, Browning, a Man High School graduate, also fired a two-round, 5-over 149. His rounds of 76 and 73 tied him with Gresham and two other golfers for 20th place in the first conference tournament of the year.
Browning’s Bluefield State team finished third in the tournament behind Concord and Davis & Elkins.
Both Gresham and Browning fired identical rounds of 149 two weeks ago at the Senator Classic at the Lakeview Resort to record a top 20 finish.
The Northen Regonial Tournament is scheduled for October 7 and 8 at the Olgebay Golf Resort in Wheeling. Gresham’s West Liberty team is the defending champion while Browning’s Bluefield State team is the defending conference champion.
This year’s final WVIAC Conference championship is scheduled for Oct. 14-16 at the Resort at Glade Springs Cobb Course.
Browning finished 29th last year while Gresham turned in his best tournament of the year with a sixth-place finish.
