CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A program that helps low-income West Virginia households pay utility bills is taking applications.

The nonprofit Dollar Energy Fund partners with six utility companies across the state to administer the Hardship Program.

The program provides grants to maintain or restore gas, electric and water service. Program officials said Monday that applications for grants will be taken until funds are depleted.

More than 17,000 West Virginia households have been assisted by the program since 2008.

Eligibility guidelines and application instructions are available on the program’s website, www.dollarenergyfund.org .
