CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A Logan County woman has won a lawsuit that accused a home confinement officer of forcing her to perform oral sex on him.
The jury awarded $275,000 in damages to April Tomblin Chafin.
Jurors found home confinement officer John Phillip Reed liable for $125,000 for intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The jury ordered the Logan County Commission to pay a $125,000 penalty and $25,000 in punitive damages for failing to properly train Reed.
Chafin’s lawsuit claimed that Reed threatened to tell a judge in 2009 that she violated the conditions of her home confinement if she didn’t perform oral sex on him. She was awaiting trial on grand larceny charges.
Reed’s lawyer, Billy Jo Streyle, tells the Charleston Gazette that his will seek to have the verdict set aside.
