LOGAN—A local Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College (SWVCTC) will be running in the New York City Marathon on Nov. 4 to raise money for the American Heart Association.

Amy Evans is a member of team Heartosaurus, a group of runners from across the country.

“I have been running for a little over a year. When the opportunity presented itself for me to run the marathon and raise money for a cause that affected two of my grandparents, and most likely has affected everyone in West Virginia, I jumped on it,” said Evans.

Evans pledged to raise $3500 and has raised $2,430 to date. She has planned several fund raising events to meet or exceed her goal before she leaves for New York on Nov. 1.

Donations of $3 or more to purchase homemade whole food protein bars can be made at the Chief Logan Recreation Center Oct. 24 and 25 and Oct. 29, 30 and 31. The Student Center in Building A at SWVCTC’s Logan Campus, will host a hot dog and bake sale on Oct. 25. On Oct. 26, a hot dog and bake sale will be held in front of the Logan County Court House from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Oct. 27 from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., another hot dog and bake sale will be held during Zombiefest at Chief Logan State Park.

Donations can be made online using a debit or credit card at: www.crowdrise.com/teamheartosaurus2012nyc/fundraiser/amyevans1, or checks payable to American Heart Association can be mailed to AHA, C/O Amy Evans, 418 Guyan St., Logan, WV 25601

Evans plans to attend medical school and practice Naturopathic medicine in West Virginia.
