WILLIAMSON — Several arrests have been reported by various law enforcement throughout Mingo County over the past week, including charges of DUI, brandishing and battery.
Jordan Chase Canada, 21, of Delbarton, was arrested on charges of DUI and simple possession by officers with the West Virginia State Police (WVSP), the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) and the Delbarton Police Department (DPD), after they received a complaint of a driver passed out in a vehicle that was sitting in the parking lot of the Miner Mart in Taylorville, allegedly with a syringe in one of his hands and an upside down pop can between his legs with a blue, powdery residue on its bottom.
Upon arrival, the criminal complaint states that the officers were informed that an employee had attempted to stop Canada from leaving the business once he was roused and awake, but was not successful in their attempts. Upon making a traffic stop on the described vehicle and contact with the defendant, he was found to have blood shot eyes and appeared very nervous. He was administered a three-part field sobriety test which he could not complete. In plain view of the officers was the pop can that contained the residue. The substance was believed to be Oxycontin. Upon further search of the vehicle, a pill bottle was discovered that contained a green, leafy substance identified as marijuana.
The arresting officers in this case were Trooper First Class D.C. Moore, Deputy M.A. Lendearo and Patrolman T.R. Copley.
Dustin McCoy, age unknown, of Day Star Rd. in Delbarton, was taken into custody on a brandishing charge after he allegedly went to the residence of Julian Ooten and threatened him with a knife. The defendant is said to have pulled the knife from his pants pocket and waved it in the direction of the victim in a threatening manner, making him in fear of his safety. MCSD Corporal N. Mines and Deputy S.M. Smith conducted the investigation and made the arrest.
