It’s always a heart-breaker when you lose a basketball game at the buzzer.
That’s what happened to the Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team which lost 46-45 at Tolsia on Tuesday night in a Cardinal Conference matchup.
Tolsia, also a Class AA sectional rival of Chapmanville’s, won the game at the buzzer as Savannah Winnett followed up her own miss after a miss by Krista Maynard as the Lady Rebels took the victory at the Tolsia High School gym in Glenhayes.
The Lady Tigers, 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Cardinal Conference, appeared to be headed to victory.
Leading 45-44, Chapmanville was inbounding the ball from underneath its own hoop but was called for a five-second violation.
That turned the ball over to Tolsia and set up the Lady Rebels’ last second drama.
No Chapmanville players reached double digits in scoring.
Kristin DesRocher led the Lady Tigers with nine points and five assists.
Jessica Rideout and Hillary Hainer had eight each, while senior Katelynn Hall had six points and 10 rebounds.
Katelynn Manns and Hailey Price each tossed in six points, while Autumn Baisden had two.
Tolsia was led by Jordan Presley’s 14 points. Winnett had 11 and Maynard nine.
Chapmanville was scheduled to return to action on Thursday night at home against Poca in another Cardinal Conference matchup. Poca is fielding a team again this season after folding its girls’ basketball program last year.
