The Chapmanville Middle School boys’ basketball team won its third straight game last Thursday night with a 54-44 victory over Sherman.

The Tigers had a 10-point lead at the half, 33-23, after scoring 24 points in the second quarter.

“We shot the ball well in the second quarter,” CMS coach Jody Harless said. “Devin (Collins) and Chris (Bailey) were able to hit some 3s and we got the ball out in transition for some easy layups.”

Collins led Chapmanville (3-2) with 18 points, while Bailey poured in 17. Adam Vance had seven points, while Tyler Moore had six, Hunter Workman two and Jeremy Lilly one.

The Tigers were without Dylan Smith who has been battling the flu.

“Not having Dylan tonight hurt us. He controls the offense and he works hard on defense,” Harless said. We weren’t able to pressure the ball like we normally do without him.”

The Tigers continue to show imporvement.

The CMS boys lost all five starters from last year’s squad to the high school.

After dropping their first two Chapmanville Middle has reeled off three straight wins.

“I believe as long as we keep working we are going to improve. A great attitude along with a good work ethic produces great results,” Harless said.

CMS was scheduled to play Duval on Monday. Logan travels to Chapmanville for an in-school game on Wednesday.
