The Man High School girls’ basketball team won easily over Beckley Christian, 66-24, on Thursday night in Beckley.

The road win improved the Lady Billies to 3-2 on the season.

Man was led by Morgan Conn, who tossed in 19 points. Mika McCoy and Summer Sword also broke into double digits in scoring with 13 and 11 points respectively.

The Lady Billies jumped all over the Lady Crusaders by taking a 26-2 lead after the first quarter of play.

Man head coach Tonia Ward then emptied her bench and brought in the reserve players in the second stanza.

“We could have scored over 100 points tonight but you don’t want to do something like that,” Ward said. “I’m glad we got to play all of our girls.”

Man’s reserves outscored Beckley Christian 10-8 in the second quarter to take a commanding 36-10 halftime cushion. The Lady Billies then went on to outscore the Lady Crusaders 30-13 in the second half to take the 42-point victory.

Jennifer Shull and Misty Dempsey tallied four points each for Man. Keely Porter, Tiffany Belcher, Tessa Mullins, Summer Combs and Taylor Whited all had two points each for the Lady Billies.

Beckley Christian’s Kayla Hill netted 12 of her team’s 24 points.

Man is scheduled to host Wahama on Friday, Dec. 28 over Christmas break. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Lady Billies then play Jan. 5 at Sherman.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Poca 35, Man 29

The Man Middle School girls’ basketball team dropped to 1-3 on the season with Thursday night’s 35-29 loss at Poca.

The Lady Pioneers were led in scoring by Baylee Gibson with 10 points. Haylee Daniels followed with seven points, while Madison Paynter had six, Sydney Keffer four and Bethanie Morris two.

“We did not take care of the ball tonight. Turnovers really hurt us and we must do a better job rebounding,” MMS coach Orlando Washington said. “We’re giving up too many second chance points. We have improved over these last two games and will continue to get better.”

Chapmanville-Nicholas ppd.

The Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team was scheduled to play Nicholas County on Friday afternoon at the Charleston Civic Center in the Hoops Classic but the game was cancelled due to snowy weather and poor travel conditions.

It is not known if the game will be made up.

The Lady Tigers (4-2) are scheduled to play one game over Christmas break — a Thursday afternoon contest against Keyser in the Capital City Classic at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex.

Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.

Chapmanville last played on Dec. 15 — a 48-31 loss at Class AA sectional foe and Cardinal Conference member Mingo Central.

Man-Fayetteville ppd.

The Man High School boys’ basketball team’s game on Saturday night at home against Fayetteville was also called off.

No makeup date has been announced.
