MUKILTEO, Wash. — Dortha Janice Ferrell McComas, 82, passed away Monday, December 26, 2012, at the home of her daughter in Mukilteo, Wash.

Born November 24, 1930, in Branchland, she was a daughter of the late Jimmy and Melissa Hazelett. Also preceding her in death was her first husband of 44 years, Frank Ferrell; several siblings, and son-in-law, Samuel Corbin.

Known as Jan to family and friends, she lived in Marysville, Ohio, for almost 40 years before moving to the Seattle area in 1999. Early in 2002, she married her high school sweetheart, Roy D. “Shorty” McComas of Crooked Creek. She returned to Seattle approximately three years ago due to her poor health.

In addition to raising three children and caring for Frank, who was in poor health for many years, Jan worked as a welder with the Siemens Company for over 25 years. Jan was well known for ever-present smile and sense of humor. She was a fabulous cook, an avid gardener, quite the crafter and quilter, and attended Victory Freewill Baptist Church in Mill Creek.

Survivors include her children, Paul (Becky) Ferrell of Cleveland, Ohio, and Janice Ferrell Corbin, and Tim Ferrell, both from the Seattle area; granddaughters, Terra Hager (Peter) of West Liberty, Ohio, and Abby (Mike) Taylor of West Mansfield, Ohio; her second husband, Roy McComas and his children, Allen (Mary Lou) McComas of Crooked Creek, Rose Harvey of Peach Creek, and Vickie McComas of Belpre, Ohio.

A private burial will be held in Marysville, Ohio.
