The Logan High School girls’ basketball team made it a sweep over Tolsia.

The Lady Cats, ranked No. 10 in the state in the Class AAA coaches poll, improved to 7-3 on the season with Monday night’s 52-47 victory at Tolsia at the Tolsia High School gym in Glenhayes.

Earlier in the season, Logan won 51-41 over the Rebels.

Monday night’s contest was close throughout.

After Logan took a 13-5 lead over Tolsia after one quarter of play, the Rebels outscored the Lady Cats 17-10 in the second to pull to within one at 23-22 at the half.

Both teams then tallied 10 points in the third as Logan kept the one-point margin at 33-32.

The Lady Cats then outscored Tolsia 19-15 in the fourth to pull out the victory.

Logan sophomore guard Shayna Gore led the way as she neared triple-double figures with 25 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Freshman center Monica Mitchell had a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.

Hannah Tothe finished with eight points. Jenna Kimler and Kelsey Kirk tallied two each.

Tolsia dropped to 8-3 on the season with the loss.

Savannah Winnett scored 15 points and 11 rebounds for AA No. 10 Tolsia. Krista Maynard added 14 and 12 boards.

The Lady Cats are scheduled to return to action on Thursday night at home against Class AAA sectional foe Lincoln County. Tipoff time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena.

Logan then plays Greenbrier East on Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. on the first night of Logan’s annual King Coal Classic. The Logan plays Belfry (Ky.) in the second game at 8 p.m.

The Lady Cats then host Man on Jan. 28 in a 1 p.m. matinee in front of the LHS student body.

Chapmanville 67,

Tug Valley 62

The Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with Monday’s 67-62 win at Tug Valley.

The Lady Tigers are now 6-6 on the season with the non-conference win over the Class AA Lady Panthers.

Kristin DesRocher led Chapmanville with 23 points, six assists and five steals. Katelynn Hall also broke into double digits in scoring with a double-double as she had 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Hillary Hainer added 10 points for CRHS, while Hailey Price had seven and Jessica Rideout and Shian Meeks had three apiece.

Whitney Evans-Kirk led Tug Valley with 25 points. Hannah Armstrong had 22.

Chapmanville is set to play at Herbert Hoover on Wednesday in a Cardinal Conference game. Tip time is 7:30 p.m. The Lady Tigers then play at Nicholas County on Saturday at 5 p.m. before hosting Sherman on Jan. 22.

Tug Valley dropped to 8-2 with the loss. TV is set to host Lawrence County (Ky.) on Thursday night before playing at rival Belfry (Ky.) on Jan. 21.
