MAN — The Man High School girls’ basketball team lost 64-55 on Wednesday night at home to Charleston Catholic at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.
Samatha Fletcher scored 24 and Anne Whelan tallied 21 for the Lady Irish.
Man’s Summer Sword led her team with 23 points. Morgan Conn netted 11, Mika McCoy nine, Taylor Whited seven, Hannah Harvey three and Jennifer Shull two.
Man dropped to 8-4 on the season, while the Lady Irish improved to 6-9 on the year.
Charleston Catholic took a 23-14 lead after the first quarter after hitting five 3-point shots.
However, the Lady Billies would battle back, led by Sword as Man cut Catholic’s lead to just a single point at 36-35 at the half.
In the third, the Lady Irish’s Hanna Gallian hit two free throws to give Catholic a 45-39 advantage with 5:01 to go in the third quarter.
Gallian added two more charity tosses to give Charleston Catholic an eight-point lead at 51-43 with 1:29 left in the frame. Conn then hit one of two free throws and Sword drained a basket with just nine ticks on the clock to cut the deficit to 53-48 heading into the final eight minutes of play.
